Philippe Coutinho is a Brazilian footballer who is good at playing anywhere across the attacking positions. Born in Rio de Janeiro on 12 June 1992, Coutinho chose to play for Vasco da Gama when he was just creating football whispers in Europe. A lot of promise shown as a young player resulted in Inter Milan creating transfer news by signing the player for £3.4 million in 2008. Immediately after moving to the San Siro, he was loaned back to the Brazilian outfit in order to gain experience.
Coutinho would end up staying at Vasco da Gama until 2010. After his return back to the San Siro, he was once again sent on loan to Spanish outfit Espanyol. This solitary campaign with the Spanish club managed to bring out the advantages of Coutinho, who clearly had an eye for goal after scoring five in 16 appearances. Yet, Inter were still struggling to get the best out of the Brazilian and this only created transfer rumours.
After a lot of talk in the gossip columns, Liverpool made a concrete offer of £11 million in 2013. This was enough to persuade Inter. After moving to Anfield, Coutinho hit the ground running almost immediately and he became a regular for the Merseyside outfit. After a string of campaigns where he was quite influential for Liverpool, Coutinho made it to the big league during the 2016-17 season when he scored 13 goals in 31 matches. Such performances made the Brazilian as one of the top transfer targets for giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Coutinho would end up making a switch to the Camp Nou for a huge transfer fee. However, the move to Spain did not work out well for the attacking midfielder. Coutinho made only 18 appearances in his first season and he never got going amidst many stars like Messi and Luis Suarez. After a lot of transfer rumours about Coutinho coming back to Liverpool, the player was loaned out to Bayern Munich for the 2019-20 campaign.
Despite his lack of form at Barcelona, Coutinho still came up with two La Liga titles and one Copa del Rey honour. After moving to Bayern Munich, he picked up the Bundesliga title, DFB Pokal, and the UEFA Champions League.
Coutinho has also been quite successful at international level for Brazil. He was part of the Copa America winning squad in 2019. Since its debut in 2010, Coutinho has so far made 60 more than appearances and scored more than 15 goals.
