Marcos Aoás Corrêa, or commonly known as Marquinhos, is a Brazilian footballer who can play as a defender or defensive midfielder. Born on 14 May 1994, Marquinhos began his career with one of the iconic clubs in Brazil, Corinthians, at the age of eight. After featuring in numerous setups of Corinthians, Marquinhos made his professional appearance for the team 2012. Even before his debut campaign came to a close, football whispers had started picking up about an impending to Europe.
A number of European clubs had made Marquinhos as their transfer targets in the summer. Even though a concrete offer did not come, Corinthians ended up loaning out Marquinhos to Italian outfit Roma, who were keen on making sure that the player had enough promise at the top level before a the full fee. His first and only campaign with Roma ended up causing a lot of gossip. Roma decided to activate the purchase clause in January 2013.
It was not long before Marquinhos was in the transfer news section, as PSG were reportedly keen on signing him. The big-spending French club ended up paying £28 million for his signature in June 2013 – just a few months after his loan move had been converted by Roma into a permanent deal.
After his move to French football, Marquinhos became a regular with PSG. He is quite versatile with an ability to play as a defender or in the defensive midfield positions. This versatility endeared to the PSG managers. Marquinhos was a regular feature of the PSG team that dominated domestic football in France with multiple league titles. Marquinhos has picked up the league title in each of his full season with Paris St Germain. Unsurprisingly, his exploits in France led to a call up to the Brazilian national team and he made his debut in 2013.
Marquinhos has already had an illustrious career and he picked up the Copa America with Brazil in 2019. He has also picked up the Olympic gold medal with the under 23 team. It is not a surprise that Marquinhos frequently finds himself in the transfer rumours section as a result of being a serial winner. The defender came close to winning the Champions League with PSG in the 2019-20 campaign before ending as the runner-up.
