Luis Alberto Suarez Diaz, better known as Luis Suarez, is a professional football player from Uruguay. Suarez was born on January 24th, 1987 in Salto, Uruguay. He is known as one of the best strikers of his generation, as well as his bad temper that led to suspensions on multiple occasions.

Suarez started his football career at an early age, playing for a couple of local teams before joining the youth academy of Nacional in 2003. He made his debut for the first team in 2005 and during his only season with Nacional he scored 10 goals in 27 games to help his team with the league title.

The striker then moved to Groningen in 2006 and after just one season at the club he moved once again, to the Dutch giants Ajax. Suarez further developed while he was in Amsterdam and made his mark with the club by wining one Eredivisie title and one Dutch Cup. In his four seasons at Ajax, he scored 81 league goals in 110 matches.

In 2011, Suarez made transfer news when he moved to England to play for Liverpool. He spent three years at Anfield and became the fan favourite. He proved himself as a prolific scorer in the Premier League too, with 69 goals in 110 games. Suarez failed to win the league with the Reds but he did win one League Cup.

His next destination was Barcelona where he formed a deadly trio with Messi and Neymar. Suarez played for Barca for 6 years and won 4 La Liga titles, 4 Copa del Rey trophies and one Champions league in 2015. In 2020, Suarez left Barcelona and joined Atletico Madrid.

Suarez made his debut for the Uruguay national team in 2007 has since represented his country at three World Cups and three Copa Americas, as well as Summer Olympics. The biggest success came in 2011 when he won Copa America with the national team, as well as reaching semi-finals at 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Suarez is the leading scorer for the national teams of all times.

During his career, Suarez has won a plethora of individual awards, including two European Golden Boots and being named in various teams of the season. He was also fourth in Ballon d’Or voting in 2016.

During his long career, Suarez played for a few of the European biggest clubs, beating transfer odds each time he moved. He first became a part of football whispers and gossip in 2007, after Ajax has shown interest in him and made him one of their primary transfer targets. Ajax paid £6.75 for Suarez after their previous bids were rejected.

Suarez moved to Liverpool in 2011 for a fee of around £23. His stint at Liverpool was very successful but also brief. Suarez was the team’s top goalscorer but the Reds failed to win the league once again.

Three years since his arrival at Anfield, he moved to Barcelona for a reported fee of at least £65 million. After six years with Blaugrana, the need for a complete rehaul at the club left Suarez in the back. He was allowed to leave and he did, joining Atletico Madrid in the process.
