Joao Cancelo is a Portuguese right back who plays for Manchester City. Born on 27th May 1994, he started playing football with local club, Barreirense, before he joined Benfica's youth team in 2007 at the age of 14. In the summer of 2012, Cancelo made his debut with Benfica's first team in a friendly against Gil Vicente F.C. After spending two seasons in the reserve team of Benfica, Cancelo was promoted to the first team during the 2013/14 campaign. On 25 January 2014, Cancelo played his first competitive game for the main squad, coming on as a substitute in the 1–0 victory versus Gil Vicente. In the summer of 2014, he completed his one-year loan deal move to Valencia CF. Once the campaign was over, Cancelo completed his €15 million move to Valencia on a permanent deal, signing on a six-year deal. On 26 August 2016, Cancelo was called up for the first time to Portugal's senior team by head coach Fernando Santos. The following week, he made his first team debut for his country during a 5–0 victory over Gibraltar as well as scoring the third goal in the friendly match.
