Jeremy Mathieu

Jeremy Mathieu is a French defender, who was born on 29th October 1983 and plays for Sporting CP. At the age of 16, Mathieu joined the academy of his local-region, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, spending two years in the youth team before he was promoted to the senior squad. In 2004, Sochaux beat Nantes in the Coupe de la Ligue Final on penalties with Mathieu scoring one of them. After playing for the French club for three years, Mathieu wanted to move to another club as he agreed to join Toulouse after agreeing to a four-year deal in the summer of 2005. During the 2007/08 season, Mathieu fractured a bone in his foot which forced him to miss half the season as Toulouse finished just above the relegation zone. The next season, Toulouse were not able to handle the wage demands of Mathieu and he was allowed to leave on a free transfer in the summer. On 1 July 2009, Mathieu joined Valencia CF and would become Unai Emery's first signing of the summer at the La Liga club and penned the left-back down on a three-year deal. After playing at Valencia for five seasons, he completed a €20 million move to FC Barcelona on a four-year deal and his buyout clause was set at €50 million. On 22 March 2015, Mathieu scored his first La Liga goal for the club against Real Madrid in a 2–1 win at Camp Nou.
