Jay Rodriguez is an England international striker who plays club football for Burnley. Born on 29th July 1989, he joined his hometown club Burnley at youth level before progressing to the first team age 18. The powerful finisher returned to Turf Moor for the 2008/9 season, after a brief loan spell with Stirling Albion in 2008, and came on as a substitute in the Championship play-off final 1-0 victory over Sheffield United. After relegation from the Premier League, he was Burnley's top scorer (21 goals) in 2011/12 before moving to newly-promoted Southampton for a then club-record £7m fee – making his debut against Manchester City in August 2012. Having earned a reputation as one of English football’s rising stars – he has scored over 20 Premier League goals – he suffered a knee ligament injury in April 2014 which kept him out of the game for almost 18 months. Rodriguez made his international debut against Chile at Wembley in November 2013 and was widely-tipped to be included in England’s 2014 FIFA World Cup squad before his injury.
