Jan Vertonghen is a Belgian defender, born on 24th April 1987, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur. Vertonghen made his senior debut for Ajax in 2006, having come through their academy system. The Belgian spent the second half of the 2006-07 season on loan with RKC Waalwijk, however. In 2008-09, he made his breakthrough to the Ajax first team and became a crucial player for the Dutch side over the following seasons. His performances earned him a move to Tottenham in 2012. Vertonghen made his senior international debut in 2007.
