James McCarthy

James McCarthy is a Republic of Ireland international central midfielder who currently plays for Crystal Palace. Born on November 12, 1990 in Glasgow, Scotland, McCarthy qualifies for Ireland through his grandfather. McCarthy came through the junior ranks at Hamilton Academical, where he made his senior debut aged just 15 and won a Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Signed by Wigan Athletic for £1.2million in July 2009, McCarthy played in the Latics’ FA Cup final 1-0 win over Manchester City in May 2013. A £13million transfer to Everton followed in September of that year. Injuries plagued McCarthy's latter years at Goodison Park and, in August 2019, he joined Palace for for undisclosed fee.
