Giorgio Chiellini is an Italian defender who is adept at playing at centre back or left back. Born on August 14, 1984, Chiellini is regarded as one of the greatest Italian defenders of his generation. After starting out with Italian outfit Livorno from the age of six, Chiellini went on to make his debut for the club in the Italian Serie C1 back in the 2000-01 campaign. Chiellini was not going to attain the status of a regular until the 2003-04 campaign.
Livorno had entered into a co-ownership agreement with Roma for Chiellini, but Roma never got to utilise the defender even for a single match. Livorno ultimately end of the co-ownership with a buyback in 2004 before selling him on to Fiorentina.
Chiellini spent just one season in Fiorentina colours before making the switch to Juventus. Apart from creating a lot of football whispers, this transfer would ultimately make Chiellini into one of the greatest defenders for Italy. In his first season with Juventus, Chiellini was able to make a decent impression. He would go on to become a regular for Juventus from the 2006-07 campaign when the club was relegated to the Serie B following the match fixing scandal.
Chiellini was crucial in helping the club get promoted back to the top division. He was also one of the few loyal players who stuck with the club during the difficult times even when gossip and rumours were rife about the top players leaving the Old Lady. After promotion, Chiellini was instrumental in getting Juventus back to the top of Italian football with several consecutive league titles. A run that started in 2011-12 campaign saw Juventus pick up nine successive titles.
Apart from his positive exploits at club level, Chiellini was also making quite a strong impression with the Italian national team. He was part of the defence that finished as the runner-up at Euro 2012, while the Italians also finished third place at the 2013 Confederations Cup.
Chiellini has won numerous individual accolades including a place in the Juventus Greatest XI of All Time.
