Arthur Henrique Ramos de Oliveira Melo, or commonly known as Arthur, is a Brazilian footballer who plays in the centre of the park. The Brazilian international was born on August 12, 1996. He decided to pick his hometown club Goiás for starting his career. However, his performances at a youth tournament led to the move to Gremio in 2010 when he was still in his teens. There were a ton of transfer rumours prior to the small. After the switch, Arthur was making his professional debut for Gremio in 2015.
Even before making a lot of impact in the Brazilian Serie A, Arthur found himself in the rumours section with many top clubs like Chelsea and Barcelona showing interest. As per football whispers, Arthur was set on a big-money move to Europe within the next couple of years. This turned out to be true when Barcelona agreed a £28 million fee with Gremio for the transfer. Arthur managed to stun the transfer odds by signing a six-year contract with the club. This turned out to be one of the longest contracts offered for young midfielder.
Arthur made his debut for Barcelona in a Supercopa de España match just a few months after making the switch. His league debut came in the victory over Deportivo Alaves, while his first goal for the team was in the stalemate with Osasuna.
Over the years, Barcelona have had spectacular central midfielders and Arthur drew comparisons with the same. A highly efficient passer of the ball, Arthur does not waste possession often and he often found himself as the most successful passer on the pitch whenever he was utilised. In his first season with Barcelona, Arthur featured in 27 league matches. Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta claimed that Arthur was one of the top prospects in the world and that Barcelona were lucky to have him.
Yet, the honeymoon period at the Camp Nou did not last for long with the midfielder’s time coinciding with a transitional phase. Among the many changes done to the Barcelona set up following a disastrous 2019-20 campaign, transfer news brought information that Arthur was allowed to leave the club in a swap deal with Juventus.
Thus, Arthur entered into a new chapter of his career by signing up with the Old Lady, who had made him has one of the key transfer targets of the summer.
