Alexandre Lacazette is a French footballer who plays as a central striker, but he is also adept at playing on the wings if required. Lacazette was born on 28 May 1991 in Lyon. Hence, it was not a huge surprise when he chose to play for Lyon in 2003. The football whispers were able to spot Lacazette playing in the colours of ELCS Lyon from 1998. ELCS Lyon were Lacazette’s local club but the move to Lyon provided the striker with a huge focus from gossip columns.
The debut for the striker came in the league match against Auxerre. Soon, Lyon offered the player with a new contract to prevent the transfer rumours from escalating any further. The striker was a part of the first-team on a regular basis from the 2011-12 season onwards, as he scored five goals and appeared in 29 games. From then, Lacazette would feature regularly for the French outfit, but goals would come in good numbers from the 2014-15 season.
Lacazette came up with strong numbers of 27 goals in just 33 games to make a strong case for transfer rumours to build up. Despite such positive numbers, Lyon were not successful on a competitive front. The only major trophies that Lacazette picked up during his time at the French club were the Coupe de France and Trophée des Champions.
After having made a strong impression with various levels of the French youth national teams, Lacazette made his debut for the senior team in 2013. However, he was unable to make a significant breakthrough into a team that already contained stars like Karim Benzema. After failing to feature in the national team squad that travelled to the World Cup in 2018, Lacazette has been keen on adding to the trophies like the Under 19 European Championship that he picked up on international duty.
The move to Arsenal provided an opportunity for Lacazette to play under Arsene Wenger. In his first season at the club, he chipped in with 14 goals in 32 games. A steady stream of goals were coming in from the Frenchman, who had to contend with competition from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the Gabon forward moved to the Emirates stadium. Even though Lacazette is not an untouchable first-team player for Arsenal, he continues to be important for the team with his goals.
