Manchester United head into a daunting FA Cup Third Round clash against League One side Wigan Athletic knowing this could be a major upset. The Red Devils have struggled for consistency under Erik ten Hag this season and were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by a second-string Newcastle United side.
With this game being against a low-ranked team in the English footballing pyramid, it will be a chance for Ten Hag to rotate his squad and offer playing time to some of the fringe players. So, we're going to look into who could get themselves on the scoresheet.
Wigan v Man Utd goalscorer odds
Amad Diallo (Man United) – 7/4 (2.75)
The Man United youngster is fresh back from injury having come on as a substitute in their defeat to Nottingham Forest. He starred for Sunderland in the Championship last term with 26 goal involvements.
Therefore, he should be handed his first start of the season with Ten Hag knowing how good he is against lower opposition and is a chance for him to stake his claim as a starter for the Red Devils.
Diallo only has one goal to his name for Man United, so with all the pressure on the Red Devils, it would be a perfect time for one of the young stars to step up and take control.
Facundo Pellistri (Man United) – 11/4 (3.75)
Pellistri burst onto the scene last season for Man United but was never fully let off the leash to show his talents. Now, he's being overshadowed by fellow youngster Alejandro Garnacho who's got nine goal involvements to his name across all competitions this term.
This could be his biggest – and potentially last – chance to show he's cut out for life at Old Trafford and can be a main player in a usually stuttering front three. He's started just one game this season, so if he can't earn a start against Wigan in the FA Cup, his future could well unravel very quickly.
Kobbie Mainoo (Man United) – 9/2 (5.5)
Kobbie Mainoo has been a rare bright spark this season for Man United having been handed eight appearances at just the age of 18. He starred on his debut against Everton away from home in what was an extremely toxic atmosphere given what happened off the pitch.
Mainoo is expected to start on Monday away to Wigan and will be tasked with dominating a likely scrappy and tough-tackling midfield battle. That is his main job but playing someone from a lower division could well be what's needed to get him off the mark, although he will need a shot on target for that to happen, something he hasn't managed in the league this campaign.
Charlie Wyke (Wigan) – 9/2 (5.5)
While Man United are the overwhelming favourites for this clash they are still not the juggernaut of English football they once were. The Red Devils have kept just four clean sheets away from home this campaign, so their defence is far from solid.
Therefore, Wigan's talisman, Charlie Wyke, will be itching to ruffle some feathers and add to his seven goals in 18 appearances so far this campaign, as well as his four FA Cup strikes during his career.
