Today's Free Predictions for Wales vs Iran

Today, Wales will be hoping that Iran defends as badly against them as they did against England on matchday 1. Robert Page's men managed to secure a point against the UA despite a slow start to the game and will be looking to get at Iran from the very first whistle.

Wales to Win

We're backing Wales to win based on the performances of both nations in the opening round of fixtures. Wales did start slow against the USA and went in at the break 1-0 down, but Page made changes to the side at the break and it paid dividends as Wales dominated the second forty-five and could have easily gone on to win the game. Iran, on the other hand, started fairly solidly against England but once their keeper went off injured, the underdogs collapsed and their defending was amateur at best.

2-1 to Wales

We've gone with a final scoreline of 2-1 as we think Wales will create enough chances to score twice but as we saw against England, Iran do carry a threat going forward. Wales didn't defend very well against the USA and could have been more than one goal down at the break. However, once they took control of the game, Wales looked the more likely to go on and win the game. Porto striker Taremi scored 2-goals against England despite Iran rarely venturing into Jordan Pickford's box, so Wales are likely to concede at least once in this game.

Following the opening round of fixtures in Group B, Wales remain the favourites to beat Iran after Robert Page's men secured a 1-1 draw with USA while Iran were thrashed 6-2 by England. We're going to take a closer look at the odds now and see how the bookmakers feel the Wales vs Iran 2022 World Cup clash is going to go.

Wales odds: 11/9 (2.22)

Draw odds: 9/4 (3.25)

Iran odds: 3/1 (4.00)

Wales are the favourites to win and the odds would probably be stacked more in their favour if it hadn't have been for that poor first-half showing against the US. The bookmakers don't seem to think that the Wales vs Iran game will have many goals in it despite both teams scoring in the Welsh game and 8-goals being scored in Iran's defeat as you can get 11/20 on Under 2.5 Goals being scored compared to 31/20 for Over 2.5 Goals.

The odds for Both Teams to Score are closer, though, but still favour just one team getting on the scoresheet with odds of 3/4 on BTTS – No and 11/10 on BTTS. If you fancy making a bet on which team will score first in this game then you can get odds of 4/5 on Wales scoring the first goal and 28/17 on Iran getting the opening goal.

Both teams will be confident they can win

Wales

Wales picked up a point from their opening game against USA despite heading in at the break a goal down. Page simply didn't get his tactics right in the first half and needed to tweak things at halftime which included bringing on Moore up-front. That sub made all the difference for Wales who dominated the second-half and eventually got back onto level terms through a Gareth Bale penalty.

Iran

The less said about Iran's performance against England the better. Southgate's men dominated the game and found it so easy to get through the Iran defence which collapsed as soon as they conceded the first goal. Iran won't come under as much pressure from Wales but will need to offer more going forward if they are to win this game and remain in with a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Wales: Page is likely to start Kieffer Moore after his impressive second-half display against USA with Danil James the obvious choice to drop to the bench. Joe Allen passed a fitness test and will be in the squad to face Iran but its doubtful he would play the full 90-minutes. Here is our predicted lineup for Wales today:

Hennessey (GK), Mepham, Rodon, Davies, Roberts, Ramsey, Ampadu, Williams, Allen, Bale & Moore

Iran: Alireza Beiranvand won't be able to play today after suffering a concussion against England which means that Hossein Hosseini will take his place as he did in the last game.Ali Gholizadeh impressed in the second-half against England and will be hoping to have done enough to earn a starting role. Here is our predicted lineup for Iran today:

H. Hosseini (GK), Moharrami, Pouraliganji, Cheshmi, M. Hosseini, Mohammadi, Jahanbakhsh, Noorollahi, Karimi, Gholizadeh & Taremi
