Ex-Arsenal winger Robert Pires insists missing out on the Champions League for the first time under Arsène Wenger is “not a tragedy” for the Gunners.
A fifth-place finish last season means the north London Londoners will play in the Europa League this term – the first time they have not qualified for Europe's premier club competition since Wenger was appointed in 1996.
That failure did not go down well with Arsenal fans. However, Pires was more philosophical in his assessment.
And the former French international, who was speaking at the Star Sixes event at London's O2 Arena, hopes his old club can instead win the Premier League next season and end a 13-year wait for the title.
