After only managing to only draw 1-1 with lowly Samsunspor in Turkish Super Lig action over the weekend in what turned out to be a shock result, current league leaders Fenerbahce saw their lead at the top of the standings shrink in the process. Despite largely dominating the match and having 24 attempts at goal throughout, Irfan Kahveci's opener was eventually cancelled out in the second half as İsmail Kartal's side failed to win a match for just the fourth time in the league this campaign across 21 outings.
That stalemate ultimately left the door open for rivals Galatasaray who duly took their chance to move joint-top at the summit on points, though they still trail on goal difference despite hitting Trabzonspor for five away from home in a statement victory. Elsewhere, an out-of-sorts Besiktas suffered arguably their most embarrassing loss in recent memory as they were downed 4-0 by Pensikspor who continue to fight against relegation this campaign.
Turkish Super Lig big 3 betting odds – latest news
As mentioned previously, it's Fenerbahce that currently lead the way in the Turkish top-flight, though their slip up at the weekend has seen Galatasaray move level on points with them at the summit. İsmail Kartal's side will find confidence in the fact that their draw did at least extend their unbeaten run to ten straight outings, seven of which have seen them score three or more goals in a match!
As for fierce rivals Galatasaray, they too remain in good nick after losing just one of their prior 12 outings across all competitions. With players such as Wilfried Zaha hitting form at the right time, they look likely to keep the pressure on the table toppers, even if they're beginning to struggle with player unavailability of late.
Turkish Super Lig big 3 – our picks for the next round
Besiktas to win vs Adana Demirspor (7/10)
It's fair to say that Besiktas suffered one of their worst losses in recent history when they were hammered 4-0 by lowly Pendikspor at the weekend, but even after that result, positives can be found ahead of this meeting with Adana Demirspor.
That can be mostly found in their head-to-head record in this fixture, as before losing the reverse match 4-2 back in September, Besiktas went unbeaten across the five prior meetings. There's also their fantastic home record in this fixture to consider too, as across 20 home clashes, Besiktas have lost just once, including last season's such fixture 1-0. That should give them confidence, as too should their return of six wins from 10 home league matches in total this campaign to date.
Fenerbahce to draw vs Istanbul Basaksehir (3/1)
Despite them sitting top of the table even after their disappointing draw at the weekend, Fenerbahce could suffer a bit of a hangover as they travel across the Turkish capital to face Istanbul Basaksehir this midweek. So far this season, Fenerbahce have tasted defeat on just one occasion domestically as they've performed strongly throughout, but with a derby match to contend with, anything could happen here.
In the return fixture, they did dispatch Basaksehir with ease, winning 4-0 on home soil but with a relatively poor record overall away from home in this head-to-head fixture, they could find the going tough in terms of getting back to winning ways. That said, the visitors have won on three of their past four journeys to this venue, all via a 2-1 score line but with the injuries beginning to stack up and after losing a few players to AFCON duty, this quick turnaround could prove problematic for the current league leaders.
Galatasaray to win 3-0 vs Istanbulspor (6/1)
This midweek, Galatasaray play last out of Turkey's ‘big three' sides so they'll know before kick off if they have the chance to rise to the summit of the standings. Even if they don't though, expect the current reigning champions easily dispatch newly-promoted outfit Istanbulspor on home soil on Thursday.
Like rivals Fenerbahce, Gala have also only failed to win four of their league outings so far this season as they look to claim another league title. Their home form has been particularly impressive, as Okan Buruk's side have won ten out of ten at RAMS Park to date, whilst conceding just seven times in the process – the fewest in the competition. That leaves the hosts incredibly well-placed to add to their 17 league victories this campaign, especially as they've scored nine times across their past two matches.
