Tottenham have reportedly identified Genk forward Paul Onuachu as a potential backup/replacement for Harry Kane. The 27-year-old has been with the Belgian outfit since 2019 and he has had a splendid couple of years with Genk. He has featured in 84 matches for Genk but an impressive tally of 56 goals has been registered by the forward, who stands tall at 6ft 7in.
There have been only a handful of extremely tall strikers in the Premier League but Spurs might have to working extremely hard to secure the signing, as Onuachu is subject to interest from clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid. Even the likes of West Ham and Southampton are reported to be monitoring the situation, according to the Sun.
Spurs fought very hard to keep Harry Kane in the summer and the club reportedly even resisted the offer of more than £100 million for the 28-year-old. However, the former Manchester City target has had a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign with only one goal in his seven league matches. Even as Spurs reportedly prepare a new long-term contract for Kane to put him as one of the top earners in the Premier League, the North London outfit are keeping tabs on the Genk forward, who would cost around £20 million. The interest from multiple clubs, though, can end up driving up the price.
The Nigerian international has a contract with Genk until 2024. This places the Belgian outfit in a strong position. Paul Onuachu is a regular for the Nigerian national team and he has scored three goals in 15 matches – most of them being international friendlies.
Spurs are also believed to be keen on Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic, but Juventus are the favourites to sign the forward who has been among the goals. Vlahovic would also be a significantly more expensive proposition.
