Top London club betting: Will Arsenal stay the distance?

For the majority of this season, it's been pretty clear cut that Arsenal would be the top London club with Tottenham Hotspur experiencing a boatload of major injuries and losing star man Son Heung-min to the Asia Cup.

However, with back-to-back defeats for the Gunners and a team who are severely underperforming in the final third, Tottenham may well believe they have a chance of finishing above their North London rivals, especially when they face each other later in the season.

Arsenal's title prospects

The Gunners were being backed to go all the way and pip Manchester City to the Premier League title after falling short last season and they looked to have a winners mentality having won numerous games dramatically, including Luton Town away.

Declan Rice looked to be the player they were missing all along, but now their attack is stuttering. Arsenal now find themselves fourth and five points behind Liverpool and bookmakers have them as a long shot for their first title since 2004.

Mikel Arteta's side are being placed as third favourites behind Man City and Liverpool with very long and unattractive odds of 7/1 (8.0) so they may well already be kissing goodbye to another title charge.

Could Spurs finish above Arsenal?

Despite some of Spurs' defeats and injury woes this season they are just one point and place behind Arsenal at the moment. Tottenham have the likes of James Maddison and Christian Romero to come back from injury as well.

Tottenham also do not have any European football to contend with which will ensure they remain fresh, while the Gunners are certainly focussing on going far in the Champions League.

As things stand, Arsenal are favourites to be the top London club with odds of 1/3 (1.33), while Tottenham are further back at 3/1 (4.0) but with only one point to separate them right now, those odds look very tempting.

Tottenham's record at finishing above Arsenal

Tottenham were very often seen in the shadows of Arsenal having finished above their rivals just eight times in the 31 seasons of Premier League football, and last season saw their run of six consecutive seasons of finishing above the Gunners snapped.

The Gunners were so dominant in finishing above their rivals they now celebrate ‘St Totteringham's Day' which is when Arsenal officially finished above Spurs. The earliest they have ever been able to celebrate such a day was back in 2008 when the Gunners confirmed they'd be above Tottenham once again with nine games remaining.

Who has the tougher fixtures?

Both sides still have some very tough games coming. When it comes to Arsenal they still have to travel away to Manchester City, Brighton, Spurs as well as welcoming Liverpool to the Emirates later this month.

While they do indeed appear daunting, nothing compares to Tottenham's end-of-season run of games. From April 13 Spurs face Newcastle United (A), Man City (H), Arsenal (H) and Liverpool (A) on May 5.

So, it looks as though Tottenham's chances of finishing in the top four and above Arsenal will indeed come down to that four-game stretch which is pretty much as difficult as you can get in the Premier League.
