Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that the blues have not lost hope of signing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund despite having spent close to £100 million on Romelu Lukaku in the summer. Haaland has been linked with almost every top European club after scoring 70 goals in just 69 games for Dortmund after joining the German outfit in January 2020. Hence, it was not a surprise that Roman Abramovich was reportedly keen on bringing Haaland to Chelsea at all costs in the summer, but Dortmund simply refused to budge at any cost.

This led to Lukaku’s to Stamford Bridge for a club record transfer fee of £ 97.8 million. After a good start to his second innings at Chelsea, Lukaku has struggled for goals in recent matches. Speaking ahead of the Champions League game against Malmo, Tuchel surprisingly said that Chelsea have not given up on signing Haaland and that he remains in regular touch with the Norwegian forward, according to Goal.com.

It is reported that Haaland has a release clause in his contract that would allow him to leave Dortmund for around £100 million in the summer. Despite the presence of this clause, Dortmund refused to sell him for over £ 150 million, which is thought to be the size of the last summer’s bid from Chelsea.

Dortmund continued to play down rumours that Haaland would be sold in the summer. Manager Marco Rose is also confident that the 21-year-old, who has nine goals so far this season, will stay at Dortmund beyond the campaign. A lot will hinge on the German outfit’s ability to achieve success.

Even if Chelsea are back in for Haaland in the summer, they will once again continue to face stiff competition from the likes of Paris St Germain, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Manchester United.
