With his two decisive deflected goals for Liverpool in their 3-1 win over Manchester United there is little doubt Xherdan Shaqiri was one of the standout performers across Europe this weekend.

However, the pint-sized Reds substitute wasn't the only star name shining. Leo Messi's brilliance has become routine but that shouldn't take away from his impressive hat-trick in Barcelona's comfortable 5-0 victory against Levante in La Liga.

In Germany, meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund continue to set the pace but it was Timo Werner who stood out. His struck a brace in RB Leipzig's 4-1 win over Mainz to take his tally for the season to ten.

What is particularly interesting about the German striker's double, however, is that it's his fifth of the campaign. For those good at maths, you'll have already worked out that all of Werner's Bundesliga goals this term have come in pairs. He's yet to net a solitary strike in a game.
