Sofyan Amrabat has seen his reputation in the footballing world significantly progress following his fine showings for Morocco at the last World Cup. So much so, several clubs have been mentioned with signing him, none more so than Manchester United. However, the Premier League club have another interested party which could give the player something to think about.
Amrabat, who will turn 27 in August, has been playing for Fiorentina in January 2020, and quickly become a stalwart in central midfield for the Serie A side. His played an integral role in helping his team reach the final of both the UEFA Europa Conference League and Coppa Italia last season. Man Utd believe he would be a perfect addition to their squad ahead of the Premier League campaign.
Amrabat is also no stranger to Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag, who was also his manager when the pair was with Eredivisie club FC Utrecht. Therefore, that is a relationship which could potentially give the Red Devils an advantage, but there is now another different kind of offer that the player will have to consider.
According to L'Équipe, Saudi Arabia Professional League side Al Ahli have made it very clear that they want to make Amrabat the latest high-profile name added to their roster. The club has already added four Premier League stars to their ranks in the form of Riyad Mahrez, Allan Saint-Maximin, Roberto Firmino and Édouard Mendy.
The team is also managed by up-and-coming coach Matthias Jaissle, previously of Red Bull Salzburg. The question remains if Amrabat is swayed by the likely huge financial package put him front of him, or if he wishes to test himself at the highest level in the Premier League and also UEFA Champions League with Man United.
Sofyan Amrabat Transfer: The latest
Sky Sports revealed earlier this week that the player himself is keen on making the move to Old Trafford and that initial talks between the two clubs had taken place. One caveat however is that the player would likely need to allow at least one player to move on before anything could happen. The likes of Fred, Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Dean Henderson are been linked with transfers away this summer.
Man Utd have already welcomed Mason Mount and André Onana to the club in recent weeks, and ten Hag is seemingly keen on adding another player or two to further boost his squad. It would appear that striker Rasmus Højlund is primed to be the latest recruit, with his switch from Atalanta progressing over the last few days. Could Amrabat also be paraded at the club as another new recruit?
With time running out, it seems that the Red Devils’ board is keen on making a final push for the Moroccan midfielder. Manchester United are believed to have settled on a £30.9m for the 27-year-old defensive midfielder, which will round up the Red Devils’ expenditure this transfer window to a whopping £200m. Club-to-club talks have been long and rocky but it looks like Erik ten Hag’s wish will be fulfilled before the deadline in a couple of hours.
Amrabat reportedly snubbed a bunch of Premier League clubs just so he can sign a contract with Manchester United. According to Italian journalist Alfedo Pedulla, Manchester United and Fiorentina have reached a ‘total agreement’ on the Sofyan Amrabat transfer to Old Trafford. Coach Erik ten Hag will have another sensational defensive midfielder at his disposal in the tiresome 2023/24 Premier League season, while Fio will get a staggering £30.9m in exchange for the World Cup semi-finalist.
Coach Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool was the latest team that Amrabat snubbed. Merseyside keep on failing to sign key transfer targets, as Sofyan Amrabat is about to sign a four-year deal with key rivals Manchester United. The Red Devils will also have the one-year option to prolong the Moroccan’s stay at Old Trafford.
