Sevilla vs Arsenal H2H: Rice key as Gunners target victory in Spain

Sevilla vs Arsenal H2H as the Gunners travel to the atmospheric Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan for a UEFA Champions League matchday 3 showdown. It’s a 21:00 kick-off local time on Tuesday, meaning the match will get underway at 20:00 in the UK.

Sevilla vs Arsenal H2H Record

There have been 2 previous competitive meetings.

  • Sevilla Wins: 1
  • Draws: 0
  • Arsenal Wins: 1

Despite both being European regulars, the clubs’ paths have only crossed in one season previously in European competition. That came during the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League group stage.

Both fixtures produced home wins with Arsenal 3-0 victors at the Emirates while Sevilla won 3-1 in Spain. The two clubs finished 1st and 2nd in Group H with Sevilla topping the group thanks to a perfect record with the exception of that defeat in North London.

The clubs have also twice met in the pre-season Emirates Cup with Sevilla winning 2-1 in 2017 while Arsenal thumped the Spaniards 6-0 in 2022 with Gabriel Jesus netting a hat-trick. However it’s hard to see that game having any impact on the Sevilla vs Arsenal H2H predictions for Tuesday’s match.

Last time out…

You have to go back to November 2007 for Arsenal’s only previous visit to the Sanchez-Pizjuan. That match was effectively a straight shootout for top spot in Champions League Group H, coming on matchday 5.

Arsenal took the lead through Eduardo’s 11th minute strike. However Sevilla came roaring back with goals from Seydou Keita, Luis Fabiano and former Spurs striker Frederic Kanoute. The Andalusians moved above Arsenal into 1st place as a result and won their final game in Prague to top the group.

They’d still end up falling at the next hurdle against Fenerbahce in the Last 16 while Arsenal saw off Milan before crashing out 5-3 on aggregate against Liverpool in the Quarter Finals.

Sevilla vs Arsenal H2H: Potential MVP

Declan Rice will be an important player for Arsenal on Tuesday night. With Thomas Partey short on match sharpness on his return from injury, the former West Ham man will be expected to anchor the midfield and provide the base for the visitors to launch attacks.

He helped inspire an Arsenal comeback at the weekend as Mikel Arteta’s side came from 2-0 down in the final 15 minutes to draw at Chelsea with Rice and Leandro Trossard on target.

The England man also has experience of facing and beating this opposition. He skippered the West Ham side that knocked Sevilla out 2-1 on aggregate in the Last 16 of the 2021/22 Europa League.

In what’s sure to be another hostile atmosphere, Rice will be key as Arsenal look to quieten the crowd and gain control in the middle of the pitch.

Sevilla: Players in focus

Ramos brings a wealth of European experience

Sergio Ramos hasn’t faced Arsenal since the 2005/06 season when his Real Madrid side were knocked out by Thierry Henry’s solitary goal in the 2nd Leg of a Last 16 tie.

Navas proving age is only a number

Despite nearly being 38, Jesus Navas is still as rapid as ever and continues to be an important player for club and country.

En-Nesyri brings the goal threat

Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri has netted 5 goals in 11 appearances for his club this term.

Arsenal: Players in focus

Raya returns to Spain

David Raya is hoping to stake a claim for the number one jersey with the Spanish national team and a strong showing in Seville would boost his chances.

Instrumental Odegaard

Despite making his breakthrough in La Liga, Martin Odegaard has only played Sevilla once, losing 3-2 for Real Sociedad in 2019.

Saka to target Acuña

One of the key duels will be on the visitors' right flank where Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka will most likely be up against Argentina left-back Marcos Acuña.

Final Prediction

Sevilla are enduring a tough season but made a positive start under new management with a spirited display and 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in Diego Alonso’s first match at the weekend.

With Arsenal not at their best in recent away games against Lens and Chelsea, they may struggle to get more than a point here.

We’re saying 1-1 with En-Nesyri to score first.
