Serie A first goalscorer predictions for this weekend

Monza vs Roma first goalscorer: Paulo Dybala (6/1)

Paulo Dybala is one of the most exciting players in Serie A and the early signs are that he might just be enjoying post-Mourinho life at Roma. Since the Portuguese boss departed in mid January, the Argentine international has scored six goals in five league matches and he seems to be enjoying a lot more freedom.

That run includes a brilliant hat-trick on Monday night against Torino. Dybala opened the scoring in the 42nd minute from the penalty spot before 57th and 69th minute strikes ensured he would be taking the match ball home with him.

That performance should ensure Dybala is full of confidence heading into this match against a Monza side that is in decent form but doesn’t appear to have a huge amount left to play for.

Frosinone vs Lecce first goalscorer: Matias Soule (11/2)

If you’ve been looking for entertainment in Serie A this season, Frosinone matches have been a good starting place. They head into this weekend with the division’s worst defensive record with 2.12 goals per game conceded on average, yet they rank in the top half for goals scored with more than the likes of Lazio.

Up against a Lecce side that has lost two of their last three by 4-0 margins and one that has shipped 17 goals in their last six league games alone, there’s every reason to expect goals here and Frosinone will fancy they can have the better of the game with their opponents in such desperate form.

The home team’s main dangerman is likely to be Matias Soule. He’s one of just seven players to have registered 10 or more goals in Serie A this term with the other six all big names such as Lautaro Martinez, Victor Osimhen and Marcus Thuram. At just 20 years old, Soule appears to have a big future and he looks well capable of striking early against this Lecce defence.

Atalanta vs Bologna first goalscorer: Teun Koopmeiners (9/1)

Atalanta had been in fine form with five wins out of six before they travelled to leaders Inter in midweek. A 4-0 defeat was a bit of a reality check, but may also just have been a sign of how much superior this Inter side is to the rest of Serie A right now.

Back at home where they’ve scored 13 in their last four league outings, Atalanta look capable of bouncing back against Bologna and there is one man who looks a great candidate when it comes to Serie A first goalscorer predictions for this weekend.

Teun Koopmeiners is available at relatively long odds to score first which is surprising when you consider his stunning recent form with seven goals in his last seven games in all competitions. It feels like we’re now really starting to see the best of the Dutchman who once scored 15 in a single Eredivisie season for AZ from an attacking midfield position.

Napoli vs Juventus first goalscorer: Victor Osimhen (9/2)

Serie A is a league blessed with some serious talent in the striker department right now and clubs from across Europe continue to keep tabs on Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian struggled to impose himself at the recent Africa Cup of Nations, scoring just one goal at the tournament, but he’s bagged five in three games since returning to Napoli, including a hat-trick in a 6-1 win at Sassuolo in midweek.

His return to form makes the upcoming 2nd Leg of Napoli’s Champions League tie against Barcelona all the more interesting, with Robert Lewandowski also on the goal trail for Barca and one of the favourites to score first in La Liga this weekend.

Before that, Napoli have the small matter of a Serie A showdown with Juventus. Francesco Calzona’s team need to start putting points on the board if they want to be playing European football next season, but having hit six in their last game, there are signs that Napoli may just be getting back closer to the level that fired them to the title last season and Osimhen looks capable of getting on the scoresheet again here.
