Manchester United have agreed a deal with Tottenham for Sergio Reguilon. The Spaniard will arrive to provide cover for the injured Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Here are the full details of the Sergio Reguilon Man Utd deal.
Reguilon, a former Real Madrid academy graduate, initially joined Spurs in September 2020 on a five year deal and started the majority of the club’s Premier League games during his first two seasons in North London. However he was loaned out to Atletico Madrid last summer and after a frustrating year back in the Spanish capital, found himself no higher up the pecking order at Tottenham following the appointment of Ange Postecoglou.
As a result, he’s on the move again, with Reguilon set to represent another of Europe’s biggest clubs by signing for Manchester United.

Sergio Reguilon is moving to Manchester United on loan. The deal will run into the end of the 2023/24 season, however United have inserted a clause that will enable them to terminate the deal in January should they wish.
Whether or not that clause is activated will depend on how Reguilon performs, but perhaps more significantly how quickly Luke Shaw is able to get fit again with uncertainty surrounding exactly how long the England man will be out. Reguilon is yet to feature this season, which would enable Spurs to loan or sell the player to a different club in January should he return.
Reports suggest there is no option to buy in this deal with Manchester United viewing the player as a quick fix for their current injury crisis at left-back. That’s not to say that Reguilon can’t make an impression and forge his way into the club’s thinking in terms of being a possible permanent addition, but the most likely scenario is that the 26 year old will return to London in either January or next summer.
United are expected to cover the player’s full wages for the duration of his time in Manchester. However it has been widely reported that there will be no loan fee involved in this move.
What will Reguilon bring to Man Utd?

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Sergio Reguilon has already trained and is available to play against Arsenal this Sunday. Match sharpness may be an issue given the player has not played competitively yet this season and only clocked up 319 minutes in all competitions for Atletico Madrid last term. However Reguilon’s status as a fit left-back is a significant boost for the United boss given he doesn’t currently have any healthy senior options that are naturals in the role.
Given Reguilon’s struggles over the past eighteen months, nobody is expecting the player to set the world on fire in Manchester. However the hope from a United perspective will be that he can prove a reliable option over the coming months and do a steady job whilst Shaw and Malacia fight back to fitness.
Reguilon is a combative defender who enjoys pressing high up the pitch. He’s also very quick which enables him to bomb forwards and support attacks and also recover at times when the opposition counters or he is caught out of position.
He’s certainly a different type of player to the dependable Shaw and his struggles in finding regular football in recent years hint at his inconsistency and certain limitations. However, as a short-term option in the final days of the transfer window, Manchester United will feel as though this is a smart signing.
