Middlesbrough vs Rotherham: Our top betting tips

Rotherham turned in a hugely impressive display in the week as they beat Blackpool 3-0. Will they follow that up here? Find out with our Middlesbrough vs Rotherham match preview with free tips, predictions and odds mentioned along the way.

Millers to move Middlesbrough near to mire

Rewind to July and we're not sure many people would have backed Rotherham to go away to the Riverside and take three points but we're not in July now. The start to the season has blown that snobbish attitude out of the window. Not only have Middlesbrough been poor, well, very poor but Rotherham have been fantastic. Whilst Boro sit fourth from bottom with just two wins in their last 10 games, the Millers could easily end the weekend in the playoff places having lost just once this season. Don't get us wrong, a Rotherham win is still a bold shout but given the odds, it's one we're more than happy to back.

Anticipating goals

Our next tip for this match sees us backing over 2.5 goals. Middlesbrough have gone over the 2.5 goal threshold in three of their last four games whilst two of Rotherham's last three have also seen at least three goals. Combine that with a head to head record that shows three of the last four meetings having gone north of the all important 2.5 cut off and there is every reason to expect this match to feature goals!

Can Middlesbrough bag what would prove a rare win?

The morale in these two clubs could not be more different if they tried. Rotherham are riding their biggest wave in a very long time whilst Middlesbrough are suffering heavily at the moment as they flirt with the Championship relegation places. Of course, a small does of realism needs to be injected for both sides by noting things can quickly change with the campaign still in it's infancy. That said, a big result either way in this game could see fans ramp up their voices considerably – one positively and one negatively.

Middlesbrough's availability hardly seems to change from week to week. Zack Steffen remains injured but with updates suggesting he is nearing fitness whilst Darnell Fisher and Chuba Akpom are expected to be out longer term.

Middlesbrough Predicted lineup – Roberts, Fry, Dijksteel, Clarke, Jones, Crooks, Howson, Mowatt, Giles, McGree, Muniz

Rotherham arrive in this match with just the one known absentee; that's Peter Kioso. With the utmost respect though, we're not sure what difference that makes. The Millers were phenomenal in the week and an unchanged lineup should be expected.

Rotherham Predicted lineup – Johansson, Hall, Wood, Harding, Norton-Cuffy, Rathbone, Barlaser, Wiles, Bramall, Ogbene, Washington
