Romelu Lukaku has emerged as a surprise name on the list of Manchester City, who are reportedly preparing to go on a spending spree in the summer. Pep Guardiola is likely to be handed a warchest in the hope of avoiding a poor start to the season. City struggled at the start of the season, but they have now recovered to put themselves in a position to challenge for the title. However, this does not help look over the numerous problems within the squad – the chief among them being the lack of a proven goalscorer due to the injuries faced by Sergio Aguero.
There is also a major headache in the form of Aguero’s contract running out at the end of the campaign. Even if the Argentine extends his deal with the club, he has been very injury prone of late and the likelihood of the 32-year-old appearing in most Premier League games is remote.
Lukaku moving to the Etihad Stadium will reunite him with his international teammate Kevin De Bruyne. However, FourFourTwo reports that Lukaku will not be thinking about leaving Inter Milan. The Belgian striker made the switch to Inter Milan in 2019 for around €80 million. After having struggled for consistency and goals at Manchester United, Lukaku became an instant hit at the San Siro. He was able to take to Italian football almost immediately and his first season yielded 23 goals in 36 matches. This season, he has been on track to better this record after scoring 12 goals from the 16 matches so far.
Yet, Lukaku feels settled at Inter Milan and he is not keen on a switch. At 27, the striker is at the peak of his powers and a move could unsettle him just at the time when he is on the verge of winning trophies with Antonio Conte.
