Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is moving closer to an iconic exit for the first time in his career, as his contract runs down with the Catalan outfit. A number of top clubs are starting to queue up for the 33-year-old’s signature and PSG are one of the favourites to land the Argentine superstar in a move that would see him get reunited with Neymar on the pitch.
PSG sporting director Leonardo has confirmed that he will not refuse to rule out a move for Messi if the opportunity comes about. Even though PSG have had to undergo budget cuts in recent years, the club are bracing themselves for making a huge offer for Messi – should he become available in the summer. The Argentine’s contract with Barcelona runs out in June and he has not been on favourable terms with the club’s board. For the first time ever, there is an increasing likelihood of Messi leaving the club where he has spent his career.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Leonardo said: “Players like Messi will always be on PSG list. Now it’s not the time to talk about it. But we’re sitting at the table of those who follow the case closely. In fact, no, we isn’t seated yet, but our chair is just reserved just in case.”
Just as PSG prepare themselves for a mega transfer, the club are in danger of losing one of their young superstars. Kylian Mbappe has just 18 months left on his contract and he has been linked heavily with a move away from the Parc des Princes. There is a significant possibility that Mbappe and Messi could be swapping countries, as the former has been linked with a move to Real Madrid – where he could be united with Frenchman Zinedine Zidane.
Messi has been with Barcelona for 17 campaigns. He has played an incredible 500+ La Liga matches for the team. In recent years, though, he has not been on good terms with the board and he almost came close to leaving the Camp Nou last summer.
