How suspensions work in the Premier League
Each league has its own rules when it comes to suspensions and how they work, this is how yellow and red cards work in the Premier League.
Obviously, like in all football leagues, two yellow cards in a match equal a red and the player has to leave the field of play, same goes for a straight red card but the length of the suspension differs.
2 Yellow Cards in a match = 1-match ban
A straight Red Card in a match for a professional foul = 1-match ban
A straight Red Card for dissent = 2-match ban
A straight Red Card in a match for violent conduct = 3-match ban
There is also a totting-up process throughout the season that means players get banned for picking up too many cards.
5 Yellow Cards before match-week 19 = 1-match ban
10 Yellow Cards before match-week 32 = 2-match ban
15 Yellow Cards before match week 38 – 3-match ban
All of these bans only apply to Premier League games so the players involved will still be able to play in cup games.
