Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has been subject to interest from many top clubs in Europe. Real Madrid are thought to be very keen on the Austrian international, but the Metro reports that Manchester United and Chelsea are keen on the versatile star. Alaba has been a key player at Bayern Munich since joining the club in 2010. However, he will be leaving at the end of the campaign with his contract running out.
In recent days, there have been strong reports that Real Madrid have been able to agree terms with the defender for a free transfer in the summer. His father, however, has confirmed that such reports are untrue. According to the Metro, he said:
“A decision has not yet been made, and David has not yet signed with Madrid. Besides Madrid, there are other clubs that are interested in him. What matters for him is still that he wants to concentrate fully on Bayern and his achievements.”
Alaba is regarded as the best left-backs in the world. He is also quite adept at playing as a centre back if required. Such a versatility will appeal to any club and he still has many years of top level football left. The 28-year-old has also shown his ability to play in the midfield, where he has played for the Austrian national team. A serial winner with Bayern Munich, Alaba has picked up many trophies including nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies.
Chelsea’s interest in Alaba comes at a time when the club are seriously contemplating letting the two reserve left backs – Marcos Alonso and Emerson – leave the club in the summer. Both have failed to make any impression in the first team and Ben Chilwell has been the regular choice for Frank Lampard since his £50 million move from Leicester City in the summer.
