For Gunners boss Arsène Wenger it's an opportunity to right the wrongs of many a season that has passed. In the last six years Arsenal have only won once on the opening day of the campaign. Another poor start will not be tolerated.
Wenger, however, will not have a full squad to select from. The North Londoners may have lifted the Community Shield on Sunday but they did so with a weakened side.
The Arsenal boss admitted in his pre-match press conference that Mesut Özil, Aaron Ramsey and Per Mertesacker were all injury doubts, however, the two midfielders took part in training on Thursday and are available for selection.
As is Shkodran Mustafi. The centre-back sat out the Community Shield victory due to a lack of fitness but, if Mertesacker is ruled out by the facial injury he sustained, the German could come into what is expected to be an Arsenal back three.
Laurent Koscielny will miss the game, though, as he serves the second game of a three-match ban he was handed on the final day of last season.
