Switzerland to Win

Switzerland secured a win in their last trip to Northern Ireland back in 2017 and we're expecting the visitors to pitch all 3pts on Wednesday night. The visitors are unbeaten in their last five matches (after 90-minutes) and recently followed up their 2-1 friendly win over Greece with a well-earned point at home to Italy in the World Cup qualifiers. Northern Ireland haven't won any of their last eight home games in all competitions and go up against a Swiss side that impressed at Euro 2020 in the summer.

Under 2.5 Goals

We're not expecting many goals from this game and believe that one could well be good enough to settle the destination of the 3pts. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in five of the last six meetings between these two countries, while three of Northern Ireland's last five outings have also witnessed fewer than three goals scored. Switzerland have seen two of their last three international matches produced under 2.5 goals, so you can see why we're predicting a low-scoring affair on Wednesday.

1-0 to Switzerland

As far as a final scoreline is concerned, we're backing a narrow 1-0 win for Switzerland at Windsor Park. Three of the last four victories played out between these two countries have been settled via a single goal and Switzerland have won two of those games. Northern Ireland haven't conceded more than one goal in any of their last five matches and should be hard to break down.

Tight and tense 90-minutes expected at Windsor Park

The hosts are expected to go with the same starting eleven that thrashed Lithuania 4-1 in their own backyard last week. Ballard, Washington, Lavery and McNair all got on the scoreboard in that game, helping to secure Nothern Ireland's first victory of the qualifiers so far. Northern Ireland sit 3pts behind Switzerland in Group C but the odds are against them this week as even with a few players missing through injury, Switzerland are a very good side that possesses plenty of confidence.

The Swiss were without Mbabu, Lang, Shaqiri, Fernandes, Embolo and Gavranovic for the game against Italy but still managed to hold the European champions to a goalless draw. Granit Xhaka picked up an injury in that game and won't face Northern Ireland this week, another reason to expect a close game between the pair. Switzerland are the favourites to win on Wednesday and that isn't surprising considering they have a much better squad on paper but Windsor Park is never an easy place to go, especially when you are down a number of key players.
