AFCON matchday three will see Nigeria lock horns with the tournament’s proven heroes, Egypt. Egypt has one of the best squads in the 2022 AFCON tournament but Nigeria will be no pushover. Find out how we think these teams will fare against each in this important group stage fixture.

Nigeria vs Egypt: Free AFCON Prediction by Football Whispers

Nigeria and Egypt have locked horns five times previously. In those matches, Egypt emerged the victor in three games, drew once and lost once to the Super Eagles. Will Nigeria upset the status quo in this game? Our reasoning for the best two picks for this game is as follows:

BTTS @ 6/5 (2.20)

Both Nigeria and Egypt will look to find the net in this game and we think they will. Nigeria and Cameroon are among the best ten teams in Africa and have had a good run in the last five matches prior to this fixture. Super Eagles lost only one of their last six games and scored in five games within the same duration. Egypt lost two of their last six matches and scored in four. The fact that Egypt has been the better team in this matchup is why we think they too stand a chance of finding the net on matchday.

Egypt will open the scoring @ 95/100 (1.95)

The Pharaohs are our favourites to score the first goal in this game. They have won three out of five meetings between these teams. Despite losing one of their last five games in regular time, Egypt has looked better defensively in recent months. Moh Saleh is our favourite player to score for the Pharaohs in this fixture. The Liverpool forward is a player to watch in the AFCON tournament, especially in the race for the golden boot.

Nigeria vs Egypt African Cup of Nations Fixture Preview

The sixth meeting between Nigeria and Egypt will be in AFCON 2022. The Super Eagles look to soar above the Pharaohs like they did in a friendly fixture back in March 2019. However, the fact that Egypt has been the better side in this matchup creates another dimension in this fixture.

Notably, Nigeria is 36th on FIFA ranking while Egypt is currently 45th on the list. Egypt’s head coach, Carlos Querizon prefers the 4-3-3 formation and averages 2.09 points after 11 games at the helm. On the flip-side, Nigeria’s head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, is the new man in charge and fans will be looking forward to his first game in charge. Nigeria will be without Aina who is out with COVID.

Nigeria predicted lineup:  Akpeyi, Omeruo, Ajayi, Collins, Troost-Ekong, Ndidi, Iwobi, Chukwueze, Onyeka, Musa and Iheanacho.

Egypt predicted lineup: Shenawy, Fathi, Hegazy, El Wensh, Ashraf, Elneny, Zizo, Sherif, Lasheen, Salah and Trezeguet.
