Nigeria are into the last eight of the Africa Cup of Nations and continues to demonstrate why many backed them as the outsider to go all the way in February. The Super Eagles have let in one goal so far and netted five goals so far after a 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the round of 16. They now take on Angola in the quarter-finals in search of a fourth win in a row since their draw on matchday one.
Nigeria first goalscorer odds vs Angola
Victor Osimhen
Although Victor Osimhen continues to boast of himself being the best goalscorer at the Africa Cup of Nations, as Mohamed Salah is now back at Liverpool. The Napoli superstar claimed the top scorer award in Serie A last season in Napoli's stunning run to the title, as he bagged 26 goals. This season, Osimhen has secured himself seven finishes in 13 Serie A games and now has 21 goals in 29 caps after scoring in the opening game at the AFCON against Equatorial Guinea.
His header that day was also his 11th goal from the previous 11 caps, but he has not scored since for Nigeria. Osimhen has still had a bunch of chances to score, and in truth, he probably should have had a few more finishes to his name after missed efforts against Ivory Coast and Cameroon.
Osimhen is now 3/1 (4.0) to score the game's first goal against Angola.
Ademola Lookman
Despite the excellence of Osimhen, all goalscoring attention in this game is going to fall on the shoulders of Ademola Lookman after his sensational performance against Cameroon in round of 16. The Atalanta forward continued his excellent form shown on the domestic from by netting two goals last time out, scoring a goal in either half.
Lookman has netted seven goals with Atalanta this season, and he is well on his way to registering his best-ever goalscoring campaign in professional football. He now also has three goals in his past 10 caps for Nigeria.
Lookman is priced at 6/1 (7.0) to bag the game’s first goal, just as he did so against Cameroon in the round of 16.
William Troost-Ekong
Not normally would we to include a defender when talking about the Nigeria first goalscorer odds vs Cameroon, but William Troost-Ekong is on penalty duty for the Super Eagles ahead of the likes of Osimhen and Lookman.
The centre-back kept his nerve back in the group stages against the hosts Ivory Coast when he slotted home from 12 yards. His penalty forced Nigeria ahead of the host nation in what was the game’s only goal, and he will once again be on penalty duty and try and get the game's first goal against Angola, should Nigeria get a penalty at 0-0.
Troost-Ekong to score first is priced at 22/1 (23.0)
Terem Moffi
Unfortunately for Terem Moffi, he is continuously benched for Osimhen with Nigeria. This puts him on the bench with Kelechi Ihaeancho, but it is the Nice forward who is likely to get brought on instead of the Leicester City man, given his superior goalscoring record and how he plays in one of Europe's top five leagues.
Moffi scored six times for Nice this season, the same figure he got last campaign for them on loan from Lorient, where he bagged 12 goals in 18 Ligue 1 outings. If it is level at a point in the second half, who is to say he doesn’t come on and score?
Odds for Moffi to get the game’s first goal sit at 13/2 (7.5).
