Newcastle most expensive signings: Isak tops mega-rich Magpies list

Who are the Newcastle most expensive signings? Since the Magpies were taken over by the Saudi Arabian consortium a few years ago, they have been able to splash the cash on some of the world's top footballing talent.

In this summer transfer window alone, £35m Lewis Hall is among their new signings, but the English left-back does not make the top five after moving to St. James' Park on a permanent deal from Chelsea after his loan spell there last season. Nonetheless, here are Newcastle's top five most expensive signings of all time to date…

5. Bruno Guimaraes – £40m

Kicking off the list is Bruno Guimaraes, who was arguably Newcastle's first real statement signing after their takeover. The Brazil international was highly sought after among a number of top clubs in European football, but decided to join the Magpies' project and has become a fan favourite ever since.

Unfortunately, Newcastle have found themselves in a spot of bother financially in recent times having to try and comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules, meaning that Bruno has been linked with a big-money move away from the club. However, Eddie Howe will be hoping that he stays beyond this summer.

4. Joelinton – £40m

Joelinton was signed pre-takeover as a club record signing from Hoffenheim, as a striker brought in with the hopes that his goals would help fire Newcastle away from the dreaded relegation zone. Unfortunately, the Brazilian struggled tremendously in front of goal.

Howe then decided to experiment with Joelinton as a central midfielder, and it is fair to say that the gamble paid off. He endured a pretty injury-hit campaign last season, but will be hoping to bounce back and help try and fire Newcastle back up to the UEFA Champions League places again.

3. Anthony Gordon – £45m

Newcastle's third-most expensive signing ever is Anthony Gordon, who has thrived since joining from Everton. The Englishman was particularly impressive last season, and earned him a call-up to the Three Lions squad for Euro 2024 as a result.

Indeed, Gordon reached double figures for both goals and assists, and will be hoping for a similar record this term. However, like Bruno, the winger has been linked with a move away from St. James' Park this summer, notably Liverpool.

2. Sandro Tonali – £55m

Sandro Tonali showed plenty of flair and promise while playing for AC Milan in Serie A, which is why Newcastle decided to splash the cash on him. The midfielder scored on his debut in a 5-1 thumping of Aston Villa in the Premier League, but has only been able to make a handful of appearances for the club since.

Indeed, Tonali has faced a lengthy ban because of betting charges, which has ultimately scuppered his chances of making a meaningful impact at the Magpies so far. Nonetheless, he will be hoping to get back onto the football pitch as soon as possible.

1. Alexander Isak – £63m

It is not a surprise to see that Alexander Isak remains Newcastle's most expensive signing to date. Indeed, the Sweden international has blown the Toon Army away, scoring over 20 goals in the Premier League last season.

Like a couple of others on this list, Isak has been linked with a mega-money move away in order to help comply with PSR. Nonetheless, Howe and the fans will be desperate to keep the striker at the North East club for as long as they possibly can.
