Wilder to make winning start

There is no denying that Millwall are a tough team to play against. They've only lost one game in their last five, which is proof that they're no fools. With Middlesbrough though you just feel like they've been threatening to kick into gear and now the managerial change will force that little spark to come. They've already been in okay form having won two of five with their latest result an away draw at West Brom; they could have easily won that match too. The new manager, a buoyant home crowd and a few players back from injury will see Boro win.

Don't expect much in the way of goals

Making an under 2.5 goals prediction for this game was pretty easy if we are being honest. Both teams have form for low scoring games with Middlesbrough seeing four of their last five go under 2.5 goals whilst Millwall's last three have all been south of the 2.5 cut off. Neither have averaged close to 2.5 across the season either with Boro sitting highest of team duo on 2.2. Then to cap it all off you have the new gaffer effect; Chris Wilder might be a good manager but a Kevin Keegan “we'll score one more than you” type he is not.

Can young Coburn score again?

Joshua Coburn is a really interesting one with the manager change having taken place. He's impressed for Middlesbrough's under 23 side and has been given opportunities under Warnock; he's not disappointed either having scored three league goals from under 200 minutes of action. Included in that are two goals in the last two games. The interesting point is whether or not Wilder trusts him and continues blooding him. If he does, there is a big chance he gets repaid with a goal in this match.

Middlesbrough vs Millwall: Gameday preview

The big news before this game will be all about how new man Chris Wilder approaches things. For a lot of Middlesbrough fans, they'll think he's walked into a good thing. Warnock had built a good squad but just struggled for consistency with injuries playing a big role. A fair few of those injury concerns have eased now whilst Wilder also benefits from Warnock having thrown in the likes of Joshua Coburn. For Millwall, it's all about playing the occasion. It won't bother them too much though. They're a well drilled side that are hard to beat. With Jed Wallace in their side too, they can change the momentum of a game in any given moment.
