Michael Olise is attracting a lot of interest in the current summer transfer window, with the Crystal Palace star potentially earning a big-money move away from Selhurst Park.
That is according to The Athletic, who claim that both Manchester City and Chelsea are ramping up their efforts to sign the 21-year-old winger.
Intriguingly, Olise lined out for both clubs as a youngster before making the switch to Reading in 2016.
He developed there for a number of years, progressing to the first team before Premier League outfit Crystal Palace came calling in the summer of 2021.
The Eagles were able to capture his signature thanks to a release clause, but they may now lose one of their key men in similar circumstances.
Man City and Chelsea chase Olise
There had been doubts about such a clause in the player’s Crystal Palace contract, with suggestions that the Eagles had it removed in a bid to either keep the player or else ramp up his price tag.
Even if it has been removed, however, it is believed that the £35million fee would be enough to snap the winger up this summer.
It would be a steal for the exciting attacker in the current market, with Olise among the Premier League elite last season in terms of assists.
He managed just two goals for Crystal Palace in the previous campaign, but his 11 assists placed him fourth in the leaderboard, behind only Kevin De Bruyne (16), Leandro Trossard and Mohamed Salah (both 12).
Impressive honours list
The player is quickly gathering admirers this summer, but this is not the first time in his brief career that he has been recognised for his feats on the pitch.
Olise boasts a long list of honours aged just 21, with his most impressive perhaps coming last time out as he was named Crystal Palace Players’ Player of the Season for the 2022/23 campaign.
It follows on from his EFL Championship Young Player of the Season award for 2020/21, a campaign in which he was named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season and the PFA Team of the Year: Championship.
One of his two goals last season meanwhile, a stoppage-time free-kick against Manchester United in January, was voted as Premier League Goal of the Month at the turn of the year, as well as winning the Crystal Palace Goal of the Season award.
Will Olise go this summer?
All of the above has resulted in interest from Premier League giants Manchester City and Chelsea, with both clubs seemingly keen to strengthen further before the new season begins.
The Blues have already spent big, bolstering their attacking options through the signatures of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson.
However, given their recent transfer history under owner Todd Boehly, there is no telling just how many players they will bring in this summer.
Manchester City meanwhile have lost winger Riyad Mahrez, with manager Pep Guardiola usually quickly finding a replacement when losing one of his star men.
There is, however, one major stumbling block to any deal for Olise this summer, with the winger picking up a hamstring injury while on international duty with France Under-21s in the Under-21 European Championship earlier this summer.
