Marco Veratti Al-Hilal transfer: What’s the latest?

The summer of 2023 will go down as one of the craziest ones in football history. After Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr and paved the way for other high-profile players to follow, Saudi teams have been sending transfer offers left and right.

Many world-class footballers already boosted Saudi Arabian teams this summer. Al-Ahli signed up with goalkeeper-in-chief Edouard Mendy and Liverpool’s fan-favorite Firmino. Ittihad Club were among the lucky ones to poach Jota, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kante. Seko Fofana, Alex Telles, and Marcelo Brozovic are partnering up with Portuguese legend Ronaldo in Al-Nassr, while Al-Hilal’s board of directors can pat themselves on the back for a job well done securing Malcom, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and former Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The financial might of these teams is rumored to tempt Euro champion Marco Verratti as well, as the Italian midfielder is desperate to leave the sinking ship that PSG seems to be at the moment.

After French goalscoring genius Kylian Mbappe snubbed a jaw-dropping €259m offer from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, the team was forced to try its luck with one of his teammates. Marco Verratti is definitely not ruling out the possibility of bolstering Al-Hilal sooner rather than later.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 30-year-old midfielder is close to signing a three-year deal with Al-Hilal, where he’ll make a killer partnership with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Ruben Neves. This’ll definitely be a treat for all Al-Hilal fans, as coach Jorge Jesus will have at his disposal a midfield that most European teams dream of.

Romano shared that talks between Al-Hilal and PSG are in their final stages and the transfer of the former Pescara player is only a matter of days. It seems that the paperwork is being prepared as we speak, but we’ll have to be patient as we’ve seen transfer deals fall through at the last possible moments on multiple occasions in the past.

Al-Hilal keen on bolstering squad with Verratti

Hardly anyone expected Kylian Mbappe to accept the ludicrous Al-Hilal offer. However, you can’t blame the Saudi team for trying, right?

Despite lacking Kylian’s fame and glamour, Marco Verratti is the sort of player that gets the job done at the center of the park. Jorge Jesus is very well aware of his skills, as is any true fan of football.

Perhaps it was a good thing that Mbappe declined the tempting offer, as Verratti’s contribution to how Al-Hilal play can be even greater. Forming up an unstoppable midfield is exactly what Al-Hilal will be known for in their 2023/24 Saudi Arabia Pro League season.

Marco Verratti isn’t going to come cheap, as he’s currently priced at €40m, but that’s nothing for Saudi Arabia’s financial capabilities.

Al-Hilal already parted ways with multiple subpar midfielders to make room for the new star trio at the center of the pitch. Gustavo Cuellar joined Al-Shabab after a €1.3m bid, while Abdullah Otayf and Hamad Al-Abdan’s contracts with the club expired and weren’t renewed. It seems that Al-Hilal are confident in signing Verratti.
