United will Secure Knockout Football with a Win Against PSG
Man Utd played host to Istanbul Basaksehir in their last Champions League game, running out convincing 4-1 winners. Bruno Fernandes got the home side off to a perfect start, scoring a brace inside the opening 20-minutes. Rashford made it 3-0 10-minutes before the break by converting a penalty which effectively secured all 3pts for Solskjear's men. In the second forty-five, Basaksehir did manage to pull a goal back through Turuc with 15-minutes left on the clock but United had the last laugh in stoppage time when James netted to restore the home side's 3-goal advantage.
PSG really needed a win against RB Leipzig to stand any genuine chance of remaining in the hunt for the qualifying spots in Group H. The hosts trailed RB Leipzig by 3pts having lost to the Germans a week earlier, 2-1. Another close and competitive game was on the cards this time around, but it turned out to be even more tight and tense in Paris. In the 11th-minute PSG were awarded a penalty which Neymar stepped up to convert and that goal turned out to be the much-needed winner PSG so desperately wanted.
Man Utd's form has picked up ever since that 2-1 defeat in Turkey in early November with the Premier League side winning each of their last five matches in all competitions. United have claimed wins against Everton, West Brom, Basaksehir and Southampton during that period, keeping the under pressure Solskjear in his job.
PSG's form has dipped somewhat in recent weeks with the Ligue 1 side losing two, drawing one and winning three of their last six league and cup games. The French club's last two away games, against Monaco in Ligue 1 and RB Leipzig in the Champions League, have both ended in defeat, which will be of concern to the visitors ahead of a trip to Old Trafford.
Head to Head Record
Thes names Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are synonymous with Champions League football, yet the two clubs have only played one another three times in Europe's elite club competition. The pair have clashed four times in their history with their first meeting coming in the International Champions Cup, a pre-season friendly competition. PSG won their first two encounters with Man Utd 2-0, but their most recent meetings have both ended in victory for Man Utd, so the pair are level in the head to head record.
For the hosts, Scott McTominay, Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, and Phil Jones are all expected to miss out due to knocks, while Luke Shaw has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Marquinhos could return from a groin strain in time to make the trip to England, but Thilo Kehrer, Julian Draxler and Juan Bernat have all been ruled out of Wednesday's clash.
