Manchester United are close to agreeing a £77 million deal with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho, who has been a long-term target for the Red Devils. According to Sky Sports, the two clubs are very close to a deal and Manchester United may offer a contract to Sancho even if he is on international duty with England at the Euro 2020.
The winger has been one of the hot properties in world football. The 21-year-old had been valued by Dortmund for more than £85 million – a little less than the £108 million valuation placed on him last summer. However, Dortmund have increasingly been admitting defeat in the abilities to retain the player, who has a contract with the club until 2023.
Any failure to sell the player – without extending his contract – this summer will see a drastic reduction in his market value. United have been reluctant to up their offer by a considerable margin owing to this contract situation. Now, Dortmund are reportedly ready to accept the deal for less than their valuation if United come up with more money up front rather than increase the value of the deal through add-ons.
Sancho had become a prize asset for Dortmund despite starting his career with Watford before moving on to Manchester City. Sancho was captured by Dortmund in 2017 when he decided to decline the offer of a new contract from City, where he had been playing in the youth ranks since 2015.
It did not take long for Sancho to become a key player at Dortmund and in German football. Despite being younger and less experienced than the likes of Christian Pulisic, Sancho was quickly able to establish himself as the first choice at Dortmund. He has come up with 50 goals in just 137 games for Dortmund.
