Manchester United have completed a sensational swoop of former star Cristiano Ronaldo from under the noses of their rivals Manchester City. Just a day after City were favourites to sign the Portuguese superstar, United have announced that the 36-year-old is coming back to Old Trafford. United have had to take out all their weapons to achieve this transfer, as Sir Alex Ferguson appears to have had a conversation with the Ronaldo regarding the move. Furthermore, the Red Devils have also agreed to pay Ronaldo an astonishing salary of £480,000 per week – a significant hike from the £280,000 per week contract offer made by City.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed on Friday that the club would like to have a player like Ronaldo back in the red of Manchester. Solskjaer played better Ronaldo for a short period during his final years at United when the Portuguese was still on his way to superstardom. Once it became clear that Ronaldo did not want to play for Juventus anymore, City appeared to be the likely destination. After missing out on Harry Kane, Pep Guardiola seemed quite happy to settle on Ronaldo – even if the superstar is coming towards the end of his career.

United’s acquisition comes after another summer of splurging on players. The Red Devils have already brought in Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho from Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Apart from the huge wages being offered to Ronaldo, United have also agreed to pay the £21.5 million of transfer fee demanded by Juventus. After three seasons and more than 100 goals, Ronaldo leaves Juventus in a swift manner that is unlike the exits from United and Madrid in the past.

During his first stint with Manchester United, Ronaldo picked up three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, one Champions League, and one Club World Cup.
