Manchester United have fought off interest from Real Madrid to retain superstar goalkeeper David de Gea on a number of occasions in the recent past.

And their determination to hold on to the man that many consider to be the world's best in his position has proved well placed, with the Spaniard named the club's player of the year four times in the last five seasons.

However, United once again reportedly face a fight to keep De Gea beyond the end of his current contract – which expires next summer, although the Red Devils have the option to trigger a one-year extension.
