Man City FA Cup Final Wins: All the Citizens’ cup triumphs listed

While it’s easy to only think about Man City as a title-winning goliath in recent years, there’s a lot more to their success in the past. The FA Cup also holds a special place in Man City's history.

So, before the FA Cup Final with Man United, let’s look at Man City’s past FA Cup Final victories.

Before the riches, there was also success

Before their takeover in 2008, Man City claimed the FA Cup on four separate occasions. Spanning from 1904 to 1969.

  • April 23, 1904 – Man City 1-0 Bolton Wanderers
  • April 28, 1934 – Man City 2-1 Portsmouth
  • May 5, 1956 – Man City 3-1 Birmingham City
  • April 26, 1969 – Man City 1-0 Leicester City

Man City made it to the final but were on the losing side in 1926, 1933, 1955, and 1981 during this time. So it’s safe to say that Man City have had a long history with the FA Cup. Though, it notably tailed off after their win in 1969, with just one showing after then until the takeover happened.

Post-takeover winning ways

It’s safe to say that, since the takeover, Man City have been a much more likely side to win a trophy. With two already secured since 2008, Man City are looking to claim a third this weekend.

  • May 14, 2011 – Man City 1-0 Stoke City
  • May 18, 2019 – Man City 6-0 Watford

This period has, however, come with one major FA Cup-related blip on the record books. A 2013 defeat to Wigan Athletic in added time left a mark on the club. While Pep changed that with an emphatic win in 2019, the FA Cup hasn’t featured Man City in a final again until now.

Man City go into this FA Cup Final with a potential League, Cup, and European Cup treble on the cards. Something that hasn’t been done since Manchester United did it in 1999. With that treble separating the two local rivals, it’s a massive incentive for Man United to win it, not just to claim a title but to stop City from doing the unthinkable.

While Sir Alex Ferguson once described City as the “noisy neighbour”, City are going into this FA Cup Final looking the favourites to move one step away from a treble-winning season.

Who has won the FA Cup the most times?

With six FA Cup trophies to their name, Man City currently sit joint-eighth with Newcastle and Blackburn Rovers. However, victory against local rival Man United would see them near ever closer to the top 5.

Arsenal currently sit firmly atop the standings, with 14 wins and 21 final appearances. City’s rival for this year’s final sit second, with the usual suspects making up the other top spots. What is clear from the table below, is that City are likely going to climb into the top 3 sooner or later if their recent history is anything to go by.
