Authenticity (2/5): Liverpool receive Kubo boost

Liverpool have reportedly identified Real Sociedad's Kubo as a potential replacement for Salah at Anfield.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that the Reds have been handed a boost in their quest to sign Kubo. The report claims that Real Sociedad may have to sell some of their star players if they fail to qualify for Europe.

La Real can only secure European qualification via their La Liga finish after their Copa del Rey dreams were ended by a 5-4 aggregate defeat in their semi-final clash against Real Madrid.

Value (3/5): Kubo's contract contains release clause

Kubo could depart La Real this summer despite having a long-term contract until the summer of 2029. The attacker's deal contains a €60m (£50m) release clause, which could entice his suitors to make an effort to sign him ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Suitability (3.5/5): Skilful attacker

Kubo is a skilful attacker who is an exceptional dribbler thanks to his agility and close ball control. As per FBref, Kubo is sixth for progressive carries and carries into the penalty area in La Liga this season.

With that said, Kubo may be underwhelmed by the fact he has mustered just four appearances in 43 competitive appearances this season. However, he has contributed with seven goals across all competitions.

Upgrade? (2.5/5): Potential Salah replacement

Kubo may be a talented winger, but he may find it difficult to replace Salah if the Egyptian fails to sign a new Liverpool contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old is similar to Salah in the sense that he is a left-footed player who operates off the right flank. However, he would struggle to replicate Salah's attacking output, considering the Liverpool star has racked up 32 goals and 22 assists in 43 competitive appearances this season.

Logic (4/5): Time to move on

For Kubo, it makes sense to search for a new challenge at the end of the season, especially as there is a risk that Real Sociedad could miss out on European qualification.

Whisper+ verdict: 15/25

Kubo would surely be open to the chance to move to Anfield. However, any potential move could hinge on whether Salah leaves Anfield, meaning there is considerable doubt surrounding this rumour.
