Despite getting off to a great start to the season in the Championship, Leicester City could be about to lose one of their players. Boubakary Soumare, who is yet to make an appearance this season for the Foxes is rumoured on the verge of the exit door after the Frenchman made it clear to the club that he didn't want to play for them in the second tier of English football.
Soumare has been cast aside by Enzo Maresca with the Italian reportedly okay with his departure given the current midfield depth he has at his disposal. As things stand, two major European clubs are legitimately interested in Soumare which means he could be on the move very soon.
Serie A champions, Napoli, and the reigning Europa League champions, Sevilla, have been in touch with Leicester about the midfielder and they could make their move in the coming days. The Leicester board are rumoured to be okay with his departure, despite the fact they have already lost several first-team players who came down with them last season, including James Maddison who has gone to Spurs and Harvey Barnes who moved to Newcastle.
Soumare's Leicester career nearing an end
Two years ago, Leicester paid €20m to Lille for Soumare's service after the defensive midfielder had come through the PSG academy. At the time, many people felt that €20m was something of a coup by Leicester, however, he failed to ever convince in a Leicester shirt and with the likes of Wilfried Ndidi, Harry Winks and Hamza Choudhury, his pending departure won't be a huge loss.
In total, Soumare played 59 games for Leicester but failed to ever get himself on the scoresheet and only ended up providing one assist. He still has three years left on his contract, however, reports from transfer expert, Ekrum Konur, suggest that Leicester aren't particularly bothered about recouping the full €20m for Soumare which means Napoli, Sevilla or anyone else interested in the Frenchman could get him on the cheap in an otherwise inflated market.
While Leicester aren't too bothered about losing him, the motivation behind Soumare's eagerness to get out of Leicester is the fact that he still has aspirations to play for France. The 24-year-old has played for his nation at every single age group and was tipped for a call-up before his career stalled in England. He believes that a move to a top European club could revive these hopes with the European Championship just around the corner.
