PSG have been left guessing on the future of superstar Kylian Mbappe after the striker admitted that he has not made a decision yet. The 22-year-old became one of the world’s most expensive player after moving to PSG in 2018 for a fee of £130 million. Despite costing almost half that of Neymar, Mbappe was seen as the future of PSG considering his age. Yet, Mbappe’s time at the Parc des Princes might be coming to an end much quicker than expected.
The striker’s contract ends next summer and he is yet to agree to a new contract. This puts PSG at a huge risk of losing a player who is worth more than £200 million for free – in the worst case scenario. Real Madrid have been huge admirers of Mbappe, who is also keen on playing for Zinedine Zidane. Even though it is not yet clear if Zidane will remain as the Madrid manager in the summer due to the club’s ongoing poor form, Mbappe is waiting for a concrete offer from the Los Blancos.
Until then, the 22-year-old is not ready to take a decision on his future. Speaking to ESPN during the weekend, Mbappe said:
“We are talking with the club, to find a project. I am thinking about it because if I sign and extend my contract, it is to commit myself on the long term to PSG.”
There is an increasing likelihood of PSG losing Mbappe in the summer if the striker does not sign a new contract. Even though PSG have been a dominant force in the French Ligue 1, the club has struggled to make an impact in the Champions League apart from reaching the final once. Madrid, on the other hand, are the most successful team in the competition. President Florentino Perez is also likely to step up a spending spree to build a new team which would challenge for all major trophies. The ageing Madrid squad has been going through a lot of issues of late and a signing like Mbappe will be a huge lift to the all-whites.
