Jeremy Doku transfer fee: Full details of the Manchester City deal

Jeremy Doku will soon become a Manchester City player. The player will travel to Manchester today to complete a medical ahead of linking up with the Premier League champions. Pep Guardiola has been looking to bolster his offensive options, specifically in the wide areas after the departure of Riyad Mahrez over the summer.

Doku, who turned 21 in May, has been a long-term target of Man City and they are now set to get their man, with the deal likely to be concluded in time for him to make his debut on Sunday away to Sheffield United. The skillful wide man is also a Belgium international, having earned 16 caps for his country.

Sky Sports claims that City will pay a fee of £55.5million for the services of Doku, who has spent the last few seasons in the French Ligue 1 with Rennes. He caught the eye during his time at Anderlecht, so much so Rennes broke their then transfer record to bring him to the club. Since then, he has not disappointed, with a switch to the Premier League the next stage of his development.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that negotiations between Man City and Rennes have been ongoing since August 1st, which is when the treble winners made their move for the youngster. Guardiola has recently spoken of the need for more bodies in his squad, even more so after the long-term injury sustained by Kevin De Bruyne, an international team mate of Doku.

Whilst Guardiola has wanted new signings, it remains to be seen what the addition of Doku, born in Antwerp, means for the future of Cole Palmer, who has continually been linked with a loan exit from Etihad Stadium. That is despite the forward enjoying a productive start to the season, including goals in the Community Shield penalty loss to Arsenal and UEFA Super Cup triumph over Sevilla.

Nevertheless, Man City supporters will be lauding their soon to be new signing in the very near future, who is just the type of player that will get fans on the edge of their seats. He too has started the new campaign positively after finding the back of the net on the opening day of the season in a 5-1 home win against newly-promoted Metz.

As mentioned, the anticipation is that the deal will be signed in time for him to feature this weekend and he is primed to sign a long-term deal with the club.
