Jack Wilshere has officially concluded his time in the Premier League for the time being after making a switch to Championship outfit Bournemouth. After having been released by West Ham at the end of last season, Wilshere has been struggling to find any takers. He had been training with Bournemouth for the last few weeks. During this small spell, Wilshere appears to have sufficiently impressed the Cherries manager Jason Tindall.
According to the Sun, Tindall said a few weeks ago: “Jack is still training with us. It is good to have him and he is looking sharp in training. We will keep monitoring that situation in the next week or two.”
Bournemouth are taking a gamble on Wilshere, but this is a move that can provide big payouts if it is successful. The midfielder has been signed only on a six-month contract. Thus, Bournemouth will be able to cut their losses soon if things do not work out as planned. After all, Wilshere’s injury record does not give confidence to any club who are looking to take advantage of his skills. He had been with West Ham since the 2018-19 campaign, but he ended up only making 16 appearances during his two seasons with the hammers.
The former Arsenal midfielder was once hailed as the brightest prospects for England. He made his England debut in 2010 and went on to become a regular for the Three Lions. However, the last of his 34 caps for England came in 2016 and he has been struggling with a spate of injury and disciplinary issues. Bournemouth, though, will not be bothered about most of these elements as long as Wilshere delivers on the pitch.
Bournemouth are in need of an inspiration to get them into the top two places of the Championship. The Cherries are currently in the play-off places due to an inconsistent few weeks. The club has picked up just one win in the last five games and they have fallen four points behind second-placed Swansea.
