Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): Isak's future hinges on Champions League
Newcastle United loathe the idea of losing Alexander Isak, who has attracted serious interest from Arsenal. However, Emile Heskey (via the Mirror) has suggested that there may be a “gentleman's agreement” in place to let the Swede leave if the Magpies fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Value (2/5): Astronomical demand
Newcastle want to extend Isak's contract beyond the summer of 2028 and are likely to demand a fee in the region of £150million if any approach is made this summer by the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool. Isak is exceptional but that figure is still too risky for his suitors.
Suitability (4.5/5): Elite number nine
With 21 goals and five assists across 30 matches in all competitions, the 25-year-old has shown he is one of the best number nines in the Premier League. Isak's pace and finishing instincts are simply elite and would strengthen any attack in England.
Upgrade? (4.5/5): New talisman
The injuries to Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Bukayo Saka have truly dealt a huge blow to Arsenal's title aspirations. However, even when the trio was fit, the Gunners were still behind Liverpool, indicating a need for a new talisman irrespective of fitness concerns. In that regard, Isak fits the bill.
Logic (3.5/5): Liverpool also in the mix
Arsenal are certainly one of the most appealing projects in Europe but Liverpool are also interested in Isak and could offer him better opportunities to lift major trophies under Arne Slot. As such, Mikel Arteta would have to do a lot of convincing.
Whisper+ verdict: 17.5/25
Even if there's a “gentleman's agreement”, Newcastle's asking price is likely to thwart any potential approach.
