Having not featured in Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the opening two Spurs Premier League games, Eric Dier’s long stay at the club may be nearing its end. A Premier League transfer is possible with Fulham showing an interest in the defender. Here’s a look at how much Eric Dier is worth and his potential transfer fee.
Postecoglou’s appointment looks like it may be the final blow for Eric Dier who has divided opinion during his nine year stay in North London. Spurs have started the season with two rather than three centre-backs with Cristian Romero and new signing Micky van de Ven the preferred options for the Australian boss.
Dier did undergo groin surgery at the end of last season and may not yet be fully fit, but his exclusion from not only the team, but also the matchday squad so far this term, has only added to speculation about a player who has been capped 49 times by England.
Also capable of operating as a defensive midfielder, Dier’s versatility and experience should at least make him a solid option to use from the bench for Postecoglou but it’s clear that the 29 year old is currently down the pecking order at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
How much is Eric Dier worth?
Eric Dier has only one year to run on his present Tottenham deal, having last extended his contract in the summer of 2020. With a little over a week to go until the end of the transfer window, the clock is ticking if Spurs want to recoup a sizable fee for Dier unless they are serious about offering the player a fresh deal.
According to Transfermarkt, Dier is currently valued at just over £15m. He was worth considerably more during the late 2010’s when the defender featured prominently for Mauricio Pochettino’s strong Spurs side and Gareth Southgate’s England.
However his value has dipped in recent years, despite Dier starting more than 30 games in each of the last two Premier League campaigns. He was part of a Spurs defence that conceded 63 times in last season’s Premier League, only 5 fewer than relegated Leicester City, but there will still be plenty of interest in Dier who has made 270 appearances in the English top flight.
Overall, there can be little doubt that Spurs’ decision to pay just €5m to Sporting Lisbon for his services in 2014 has proved an astute piece of business. Any transfer fee for Dier in this transfer window would certainly be considerably more than that amount.
Possible Eric Dier Fulham transfer – Could it be a swap deal?
Fulham are keen to sell Tosin Adarabioyo (25) to Tottenham in order to bring Eric Dier (29) to Craven Cottage. The former remains set on a move to Monaco. (RMC)https://t.co/NIRlQpqJZU

Publicly at least, Dier is currently keen to stay at Spurs and fight for his place, but the club could attempt to force the situation by accepting an offer for the defender. Fulham have been linked with a move for Dier, but there has been no formal offer yet from the Cottagers.
One possibility is that Dier could move across London in a possible swap deal involving Tosin Adarabioyo. Fulham are reportedly interested in that option with Monaco having already shown interest in 25 year old Adarabioyo this summer.
Like Dier, Adarabioyo’s contract expires at the end of this season and the Manchester-born defender is thought to carry a similar market value to that of Dier, raising the possibility of a straight swap deal or one that involves only a small amount of cash heading in either direction.
The defender started 23 of Fulham’s Premier League games last season and has been a reported target for Tottenham. Any transfer would most likely see Adarabioyo become a back-up option at Spurs though and it remains to be seen whether either player would be keen on the idea of a swap deal.
