Dean Henderson is on the brink of joining Crystal Palace from Manchester United. The goalkeeper has been loaned out multiple times during his career, but now finally looks set to leave Old Trafford on a permanent basis. Here’s a look at how much Dean Henderson is worth and the possible Crystal Palace transfer fee.
Henderson spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, helping the newly promoted club beat the drop. However the keeper’s final appearance for Forest came in the East Midlands derby win over Leicester back in January with a torn thigh muscle ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
The keeper would need surgery to fix the problem but was widely tipped to rejoin Forest on a permanent basis this summer. That transfer ultimately failed to materialise though with Crystal Palace emerging as front runners for the 26 year old’s signature in recent days.
Henderson is now believed to have completed his medical at Selhurst Park meaning a formal announcement of this transfer should be imminent. It’s a move that is also likely to enable United to complete the signing of Fenerbahce keeper Altay Bayindir as their new number two.
How much is Dean Henderson worth?
The injury problems suffered by Dean Henderson throughout most of 2023 have made it a little bit harder for Manchester United to find a new home for the keeper and his market value has most likely dropped slightly as a result. Capped once by England, Henderson is valued at around £15.5m by Transfermarkt but this will be his first ever permanent transfer as a professional footballer.
Henderson was initially on the books of Carlisle United in his native Cumbria as a youngster before moving to Manchester United’s academy in 2011. He has since featured on loan at Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United, in addition to last season’s stint at Forest.
It was after a very impressive 2019/20 Premier League campaign at Bramall Lane that Henderson’s value peaked with the young keeper being tipped as a future Manchester United and England number one. He made 13 top flight appearances the following season at Old Trafford but played second fiddle to David de Gea the following year and was clearly keen to avoid another season warming the bench in Manchester behind new number one Andre Onana.

Dean Henderson is expected to move to Crystal Palace in a £20m deal. That’s set to involve an initial £15m fee plus £5m in potential add-ons while Manchester United will also retain a sell-on percentage in the event that the Englishman moves on to a new club in the future.
Palace have been looking for a new goalkeeper this summer after Vicente Guaita refused to play for the club in pre-season. The Spaniard, who had been the club’s number one throughout much of his time at Selhurst Park, now appears close to joining Rafa Benitez’s Celta Vigo.
That means Palace are set to go with Henderson and Sam Johnstone as their two main goalkeepers this season. The latter has started all three of the club’s Premier League games so far but will now face real competition for the starting role for Roy Hodgson's team, despite only recently being given the number one jersey.
