How much is Che Adams worth? Here’s the possible Everton transfer fee

Everton are closing in on a deal for a new striker with Southampton's Che Adams potentially moving to Goodison Park. Here’s a look at how much the 27 year old is worth and the potential Che Adams Everton transfer fee.

Now an experienced Premier League campaigner, Adams has spent four years on the South Coast since joining Southampton from Birmingham City in the summer of 2019. He has been a regular starter for much of his time at St Mary’s, showcasing an impressive ability to lead the line, something that should make him a natural fit for a Sean Dyche team with Adams set to provide competition for the injury-prone Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, it’s true that Adams has struggled to reproduce his goalscoring form at Championship level on the Premier League stage. It was a 22-goal season with Birmingham in the second tier that first attracted Southampton to Adams but he has never reached double figures in the top flight, only managing 5 goals in 28 appearances as Saints were relegated last term.

Adams has already scored 3 Championship goals this season for the recently relegated side though, despite only starting 1 of Southampton’s 3 matches so far.

Market value – How much is Che Adams worth?

While he may have been criticised at times for his inability to convert chances and score goals, Adams possesses many of the traits that any manager would want to see in their striker.

Despite suffering relegation, Adams’ stock hasn’t fallen dramatically and his market value is perhaps somewhere in the £15-20m range. That seems a fair amount for a striker with a considerable amount of Premier League experience who is still relatively young at 27. There aren’t many players that Everton could realistically sign for under £20m who would be as safe an option as Adams.

Saints boss Russell Martin is still hopeful that the striker will snub a move to Merseyside with Crystal Palace also linked with the player. However with only a year to run on his present deal at St Mary’s, the club may take a very different stance.

If Adams is still a Southampton player a fortnight from now, that would open up the very real prospect of him leaving on a free transfer next summer and with an immediate return to the riches of the Premier League far from guaranteed, that’s a risk that Saints would most likely rather not take.

Che Adams Everton transfer fee

The deal that could see Che Adams move to Everton has been reported at being £15m. That's a reasonable price for the striker, particularly in this market where a host of relatively unproven players have transferred for sums far greater than that.

It would be a similar figure to the amount that Southampton paid Birmingham for his services four years ago. It would give the Championship side fresh funds to potentially reinvest in the squad in addition to those from the recent transfers of captain James Ward-Prowse to West Ham United and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.

Adams still has to agree to the move, but given Everton’s current shortage of forward options, he may immediately be thrust into the starting lineup. Calvert-Lewin was fit enough to start against Aston Villa at the weekend but suffered a facial injury which forced him to be withdrawn in the First Half of the 4-0 defeat and may lead to another spell on the sidelines.
